I'm not sure how best to express my deep affection for this book and the woman at its center. Edie is subtitled An American Biography, and that's accurate. What sets out to be an oral history about a single person grows into a defnitive biography about a generation of artists who emerged from Andy Warhol's factory scene. Edie traces a path along the 1960's in full. At times, it reads almost ecstatically. At other times, it's horrifying and heatbreaking. This is a Book with a capital "B," a History with a capital "H." It is a tour de force, and I am grateful for it, like I am grateful Edie Sedgwick once walked this earth.
